Company History
Certus Inspection Services Ltd is an independent inspection services company with headquarters based in central Scotland and with UK and Europe coverage, founded in 2011 by Andrew and Fiona McGurk.
Certus provides comprehensive inspection and consultancy services for a wide range of public and private sector organisations and specialises in inspection of new-build bridges and refurbishment of existing structures.
Our highly experienced team – many with over 30 years’ experience working within Civil, Marine and Rail Industries – are qualified with Institute of Corrosion (ICorr), the Welding Institute (CSWIP) and British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing (PCN).

All work undertaken is carried out promptly and efficiently by our certified team and completed to an exacting standard in accordance with company procedures and practices.
Our objective is to ensure that the customer is completely satisfied with the services provided and to exceed expectations.
We have developed an Integrated Quality Management System and Process Manual designed to meet the requirements of ISO 9001 (Quality Management), ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety).
All our policies and procedures are fully adhered to by staff and Key Performance Indicators are in place to monitor service provision and to assist with continuous improvement.
Who are we
Andrew McGurk, Director
Qualified as Senior Coating, Welding & NDT Inspector.
Experience in Precast & Concrete processes.
Andrew has 30+ years working in the fabrication, welding and coating industry across the UK and Ireland.
Andrew began his extensive career in the Construction Industry at Faslane Naval Base completing a welding-based apprenticeship. He expanded his experience within the coatings and concrete industries obtaining Icorr Level 3, CSWIP 3.1 and PCN Non Destructive testing qualifications.
Fiona McGurk, Director
Qualified as Coating & Welding Inspector.
Experience in Precast & Concrete processes.
Fiona has 10+ years experience within the fabrication, welding and coating industry across the UK and Ireland.
Before moving to Certus Inspection Services Ltd Fiona worked as a development chemist for Astra Zeneca and Fujifilm for 15 years.
Allan Turner, Operations Manager
Qualified as Coating & Welding Inspector.
Experience within the fabrication, welding and inspection industry across the UK and Ireland.
Allan has 30+ years experience within the fabrication, welding and coating industry across the UK.
Before moving to Certus Inspection Services Ltd in 2023 Allan worked for Doosan as an apprentice welder and was the remote visual group lead by the time he completed 20 years service before moving to Rolls-Royce involved in Engineering, NDT and Welding projects including site deployments mainly servicing the nuclear industry across the UK fleet of reactors.
Barry Gillard, Inspector
Qualified as Coating Inspection.
Barry has 35+ years experience within the coating industry across the UK.
Before supporting Certus Inspection Services Ltd Barry has experience across the full coating process. Vast experience across many disciplines gained throughout his career including NDT, Welding, Management and QHSE Functions to mention a few.
Billy Elliot,
Inspector
Qualified as Coating & Welding Inspector.
Billy has 35+ years experience within the fabrication, welding and coating industry across the UK and Europe.
Before supporting Certus Inspection Services Ltd Billy has been working in the petrochemical sector acting as a Welder, Supervisor, Inspector and QC lead across many projects including New Build, Maintenance and Back-up work.
Kieron McBride, Inspector
Qualified as Senior Coating Inspector.
Kieron has 40+ years experience within the coating industry across the UK.
Before supporting Certus Inspection Services Ltd Kieron has experience across the full coating process including supervisory and contract managing roles. Vast experience across many disciplines gained throughout his career including NDT, Welding, Management and QHSE functions to mention a few.
