Services

In addition to inspection services, we carry out comprehensive bridge surveys for clients prior to work commencing to provide detailed advice on steelwork repairs and guidance on specifications for protective coatings to meet Network Rail and Highway Agencies requirements.  Certus can further support clients by undertaking performance monitoring and by over-seeing and auditing fabricators’ and contractors’ operational methods, plans and procedures.

‘Our services are tailored to meet individual contract requirements’

Coating Inspection

Coatings inspection is crucial to confirm that systems have been applied correctly and to ensure defects are rectified before becoming a more costly, arduous problem.

Our experienced team of qualified paint inspectors, qualified up to ICorr Level 3, ensure all works are carried out in accordance with contract specification.  Monitoring works at all stages of the process is undertaken; preparation of substrate to specified cleanliness and surface profile specification, application of paint system and environmental conditions monitoring can be utilised to support control and adherence to specification.

Numerous inspection techniques are employed including, visual inspection, destructive techniques eg adhesion tests and non-destructive techniques eg Dry Film Thickness.

Specific support can be provided to support Quality Control, Assurance.

Inspections can also be completed on in-service components to support maintenance and through life process.

Precast Concrete Inspection

Concrete inspections should be carried out to confirm the integrity of the process from fabrication of formwork and reinforcement through to in-service inspections. Frequency of inspections are tailored to client requirements, programme and complexity of structure.

Concrete mix design, materials used, strength of concrete (Cube testing), dimensions checks, verification of reinforcement and visual inspections can all be reviewed and inspected throughout the process.

Visual inspections can identify the following challenges that the concrete structure or component may face:

  • Cracks, location, orientation, width, length, and cause.
  • Deterioration of concrete, spalling, pop-outs and discolouration.
  • Signs of reinforcement corrosion.
  • Signs of any previous repairs.

Regular inspection programmes should be established to support the concrete structure or component expected life span.

Welding & Fabrication Inspection

Welding is an integral part of the fabrication process, ongoing monitoring can give our client confidence that specifications such as BS EN 1090-2:2018+A1:2011 are being adhered to.

Our project specific ITP’s typically include:

  • Auditing of fabricators documentation including CE marking certification, material certification, calibration certificates, WPQR, welder qualifications, WPS and Welding consumable certification
  • Verification of joint preparation and fit up
  • Dimension checks on components
  • Monitoring of ongoing welding and verification of adherence to WPS
  • Visual inspection of welds, edges and profiled faces

non-destructive testing

Certus provides a wide range of NDT techniques including:

  • Visual inspection
  • Magnetic particle inspection
  • Liquid penetrant inspection
  • Eddy current inspection
  • Radiographic inspection
  • Ultrasonic inspection
  • Metallurgical testing
